The throttle valve is located inside a housing called the throttle body. It is controlled by the ECU, which adjusts the throttle valve angle with the help of a DC motor. Feedback is then sent to the ECU via a throttle position sensor. Together, these components form the electronic throttle control.

Throttle control plays an important role in the reduction of vehicle emissions. This component is used to control the intake air into the inlet manifold and for the exhaust gas recirculation system.
